Molly Smith, DMD, will present Common Oral Pathology. Cocktails begin at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m. and the program at 7:30 p.m.
Speaker Bio:
Dr. Molly Housley Smith is an oral and maxillofacial pathologist in Lexington, Kentucky. Following dental school, she attended a one-year general practice residency program at Malcom Randall VA Medical Center in Gainesville, FL, and subsequently completed a three-year residency program in oral and maxillofacial pathology at the University of Florida, with a subsequent one-year fellowship in oral pathology at the University of Kentucky. She worked as the Division Chief of the Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology Division at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry from 2018 to 2021 before she joined the oral pathology biopsy service at Pathology & Cytology Laboratory in Lexington, KY.
She is an author and subspecialty editor for the online pathology resource Pathology Outlines, a section editor for the Journal of the American Dental Association, a Fellow of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, and a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify common oral lesions: Attendees will be able to recognize and describe the clinical features of common benign, premalignant, and malignant oral lesions, including bumps, ulcers, leukoplakias, and more.
- Differentiate between normal and pathological findings: Participants will learn to distinguish between normal anatomical variations and pathological changes in the oral cavity through a variety of case studies that encourage the audience to evaluate the case as if he or she were a patient in the chair.
- Discuss diagnostic protocols: Attendees will understand when and how to perform or refer for diagnostic procedures, such as biopsies, imaging, or laboratory tests.
