Kick off the Northwest Branch’s 2026-2027 Season with “Pediatric Dentistry…It’s the Little Things” presented by Cissy Furusho, DDS, MS – Pediatric Dentistry & Kirk Kollmann, DDS, MS Pediatric Dentistry.

Course description: Do you remember when you found out what that little arrow on the fuel gauge of your car was for or what the ridge on the outside of your prescription medicine bottle top is for? Mind blowing! They certainly made my life easier. If you treat children in your practice or if you would like to I hope the little things you learn from us today make a big difference in your practice.
Speaker Bios: Dr. Cissy Furusho is a Pediatric Dental Specialist with a thriving private practice, Dentistry for Kids, in Chicago in partnership with Dr. Kirk Kollmann. Together they purchased Dr. Marvin Berman’s practice 28 years ago. He was her pediatric dentist and the person who inspired he to become a pediatric dentist. She received her Bachelor degree in biology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and later earned her DDS, pediatric specialty degree and her Master’s Degree in Oral Biology at the University of Illinois College of Dentistry. She is a Board-Certified pediatric dentist and is a Diplomat of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. She is laser certified with the Academy of Laser Dentistry and has studied oral facial myofunctional therapy. Dr. Furusho was on faculty in the Pediatric Department at the University of Illinois College of Dentistry and served as an attending in the residency program at Illinois Masonic Hospital. Dr. Furusho has dedicated herself for many years to organized dentistry having served as President of the American Association of Women Dentists, past president of the University of Illinois College of Dentistry Alumni Association, and was on the Board of Directors of the Chicago Dental Society. She has volunteered her time to Illinois Missions of Mercy and has chaired the pediatric section. Dr. Furusho is currently chair of the Gillette Hayden Memorial Foundation and a past-member of the ADA Strategic Forecasting Committee. Dr. Furusho is a Fellow of both the American College of Dentist and the International College of Dentists. Dr. Furusho loves being a pediatric dentist, is an animal advocate and in her spare time volunteers at her son’s school.
Dr. Kirk Kollmann is a Board-Certified Pediatric Dentist in Lincolnwood. As a staff member of Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, he serves the Cranio-Facial population in the Chicagoland area while supervising pediatric dental residents. He’s also involved societies related to tongue function and breastfeeding. Being member of ADA, ISDS. CDS, & AAPD.
Learning Objectives:
1. Take home at least 4 or 5 tips to put yourself at ease in order to be able to treat infants and toddlers.
2. Take home tips to help your staff know when the best time to schedule children in your day to day practice.
3. Take home tips on listening to the parent and knowing what is in the best interest for the child, the two may not be the same.
4. Learn the right questions to ask if you think a lingual frenum might need to be released.
