Starting with the 2027 license renewal, Illinois now requires all licensed healthcare providers—including dentists and dental hygienists—to complete one hour of cultural competency training. Cultural competency, as defined by the Illinois law, means a set of integrated attitudes, knowledge, and skills that enables a health care professional or organization to care effectively for patients from diverse cultures, groups, and communities.
This new rule, aimed at improving care for diverse populations, was passed in 2023 but takes effect for the 2027 cycle.
ISDS is offering the FREE webinar "How cultural competency improves patient rapport and clinical outcomes of dental practices" on Tuesday, June 23rd.
