In 2020, the Chicago Dental Society created the Loren J. Feldner Leadership Award to pay tribute to a beloved colleague widely known for his inspiring energy and spirit. Dr. Feldner died suddenly in 2019 but leaves behind a legacy of leadership and passion for dentistry.

A nominee may be a CDS member or a non-dentist who exhibits the qualities that endeared Dr. Feldner to so many: professional drive, dedication to dentistry and support to colleagues, friends and family.

Nominees will be evaluated by the CDS Committee of Ethics and Special Issues on the following:

• Has the ability to motivate people to work toward a common objective.
• Is recognized as someone whom others look up to and learn from.
• Is a leader who is proactive instead of reactive.
• Is visionary, confident, charismatic and inspirational.

The award is presented annually at the November CDS Installation of Officers. The winner will be presented with an engraved statue, and a $500 donation will be made to the Dental Lifeline Network Heroes Challenge Fund in honor of Dr. Feldner.
