CDS, Organized Dentistry Loses a Champion After the Passing of Dr. Walter Lamacki
With great sadness, we report the passing of a champion of the Chicago Dental Society and of organized dentistry.
Dr. Walter F. Lamacki, long-time editor of the CDS Review and past president of CDS, passed away on Tuesday, July 27.
A stalwart member of the Englewood Branch for more than 50 years, Wally graduated from Loyola University – Chicago School of Dentistry in 1961. He was a dedicated doctor and perpetual servant who throughout his career volunteered for various officer positions with CDS, the Illinois State Dental Society and the American Dental Association.
"If you've ever attended an Englewood Branch meeting, then you must know Wally Lamacki," remembered Kathryn Bielik, a long-time member of the Englewood Branch who was befriended by Wally 28 years ago. "Wally was a welcoming, encouraging Englewood Branch member. His commitment and dedication to the dental profession were admirable. Wally will be fondly remembered and greatly missed." "When I entered practice and (worked) with him on committees as a young dentist - when Wally was CDS president and an ADA trustee – I got to see him as a true person, as a true leader," said Joseph Unger, Englewood Branch director. "Wally just had a very kind heart; he knew how to reach out to everybody."
Wally's last post was as esteemed editor of the CDS Review, a position he relished and where his insights and willingness to tackle important issues were on display issue after issue.
