COVID-19 vaccine update

CDS has received many questions from our members about the availability and access to the COVID-19 vaccine.

Here are the facts:

  • CDS does not have the vaccine to distribute nor is CDS involved in coordinating when and where the vaccine will be distributed in your area.
  • Local health departments are awaiting delivery of the vaccine and making plans to vaccinate local residents following the phased priority recommended by the CDC. Health departments operate somewhat independently and their distribution plans vary so what one community does could well be different than its neighboring community.
  • News media have reported that limited supplies of both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccine have been shipped around the country just in the last 10 days. That limited supply has been earmarked for front-line hospital workers and then for long-term care residents and staff. Dentists are in Phase 1A to receive the vaccine but are in line behind hospital staff.
  • On Dec. 21, CDS sent an email to our members relaying what was known and available from our area health departments about their planning and distribution efforts. Some departments have surveys to complete to gather crucial information for their planning in our large metropolitan area.

We encourage you to complete these surveys. Please read the CDS email here.

CDS understands your high interest in receiving the vaccine. We are monitoring our health departments for updates and will relay the latest news when we have it.
