Course Description:
This course fulfills the Illinois requirement for Implicit Bias Awareness training. Implicit Bias is a form of bias that occurs unintentionally. Even though the bias is unintentional or unconscious, it can affect judgement, decisions, and behaviors.
Learning Objectives
- To help course attendees understand and be aware of implicit bias.
- To support dentists in understanding that racism, at an unconscious level, can impact their behavior and decisions.
- To show dentists that awareness of this bias is the first step in changing behavior.
About the Speaker
Kevin Patterson, DDS, is a well-known South Suburban Branch Member. He is a Past President and Past Director of the Branch. He is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor at Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine Illinois. He serves on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee at Midwestern and holds a certificate in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Academics from Midwestern University.
