Illinois dentists: 2018 is a license renewal year

2018 is a license renewal year for dentists in Illinois.

Beginning in early June through Sept. 30, dentists will receive email notification of their license renewal with a PIN. Licensees will be required to go to the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation’s (IDFPR) website idfpr.com to renew online. This affects individuals who have general dentist license, specialty license, controlled substance license and dental sedation permit.

To be able to receive the notification and PIN, all dentists will need to verify that IDFPR has an up-to- date e-mail address associated with each license. If you received your last renewal notice and PIN via email in 2015 and have not changed your email address, you are likely already set with IDFPR to receive your 2018 renewal electronically.

Members need to go to the Change your Address, Email Address or Telephone Number page at idfpr.com. To log in, select your profession (i.e. dentist, dental sedation Permit, or specialist in dentistry.)  Then select “Change/Verify address & Contact Info,” where you will insert your license number, Social Security number, and date of birth. Individuals will need to follow this series of actions for each license (dentist, dental sedation permit, or specialist in dentistry) as the IDFPR system does not link the individual to all of their licenses. Changes for Illinois Controlled Substance Licenses cannot be made online.

The IDFPR website does not have everyone’s birthdate in its system.  If IDFPR does not have your birthdate, its website  will not allow you to edit any of your information.  the Illinois State Dental Society discovered that many of the birthdates for licensed individuals were lost when IDFPR updated its database and website.

Every individual that has a license must have a valid email address in the system. without a valid email address in the system, dentists and dental hygienists will not receive any information on license renewal.  There will be no paper renewal notice mailed in 2018. Notifications will only be sent via email.

If you cannot login to review your information, email IDFPR Dental Liaison Jerry Miller or call 217.782.7524.

Don't wait until the last minute to update your information at idfpr.com.
