DESCRIPTION:Credit Hours: 3 Hours\nCourse Title: When it Clicks – Clinical Reasoning in TMJD\nSpeaker: Antigone Vesci PT\, DPT\, ATC\, SCS\, FAAOMPT \nCourse Description:\nThis course provides dentists with a practical\, evidence-informed approach to the diagnosis and management of temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJD). \nParticipants will gain a working understanding of TMJ anatomy\, biomechanics\, and pathophysiology as they relate to occlusal splints\, pharmacologic strategies\, and surgical considerations. \nEmphasis is placed on clinical reasoning\, pain science\, and decision-making to help clinicians confidently screen and evaluate patients\, implement effective in-office management strategies\, and determine appropriate referrals. \nThe course also highlights interdisciplinary collaboration\, equipping participants with actionable tools and insights they can apply in their practice the very next day. \nCourse Objectives:\n1. Understand TMJ anatomy\, biomechanics\, and pathophysiology relevant to splint therapy\, surgery\, and pharmacologic treatment.\n2. Strengthen clinical reasoning skills using pain science to guide TMJD diagnosis\, management\, and referral.\n3. Enhance interprofessional collaboration skills when working with multidisciplinary teams caring for patients with TMJD. \nSpeaker Bio: Dr. Antigone Vesci is a Sports Certified Physical Therapy Specialist\, Athletic Trainer\, and the founder of AV Performance Therapy. She also is an adjunct faculty member at Northwestern University. \nShe earned her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training in 2012 and her Doctor of Physical Therapy in 2014 from Boston University’s College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences: Sargent College. In 2017\, she completed her Fellowship in Orthopaedic Manual Therapy at the University of Illinois at Chicago. \nDr. Vesci’s work focuses on teaching and mentoring clinicians in clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice. Clinically\, she specializes in treating the aging athlete\, as well as patients with acute or chronic spine pain. \nShe also has a specializes in temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction\, frequently treating and presenting to dentists and other specialists on interdisciplinary approaches to its management. \nDr. Vesci also presents to firefighters\, law enforcement\, military\, and other tactical athlete groups on injury risk reduction for O2X Human Performance. Antigone lives in Glenview\, IL with her husband and 2 children.

This course will provide guidance on when to refer patients for periodontal or orthodontic care and how collaborative treatment planning can significantly improve outcomes. We will explore strategies for accurate diagnosis\, the importance of early treatment discussions\, and ways to navigate complex cases. Participants will gain insight into common challenges that arise during periodontal and orthodontic treatment\, as well as practical approaches to achieving predictable\, high-quality results for both patients and restorative providers. Don’t worry if your treatment is gummed up—we will straighten it out. \nCourse Objectives:\nBy the end of this lecture\, participants will learn: \n\nWhen to refer to the specialist.\nHow Orthodontics can aid Periodontal treatment and how Periodontics can aid Orthodontic treatment.\nWhat came first…The periodontist or the orthodontist? Timing and how to stage treatment for optimal long-term results.\n\nAbout the Speakers:\nDr. Jennifer Silc earned her BS in Zoology from Michigan State University\, her DDS from Marquette University\, and her MS in Periodontics from the University of Michigan. A Diplomate of both the American Board of Periodontology and the International Congress of Oral Implantologists\, she has achieved the highest levels of accreditation in her specialty. \nFor more than 25 years\, Dr. Silc has led Silc Periodontics with expertise in periodontal care\, advanced bone regeneration\, implant dentistry\, and cosmetic oral surgery. She is known for her clear\, compassionate communication and values strong relationships with patients and colleagues—especially her favorite referring orthodontist and husband\, Dr. Bryan Nakfoor.  \nDr. Bryan Nakfoor discovered his passion for orthodontics while working in his father’s practice. He earned his engineering degree and dental degree with honors from the University of Michigan\, where he was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Society\, and completed his MS in Orthodontics at the same institution.  \nA board-certified orthodontist since 2008\, Dr. Nakfoor has over 20 years of experience helping patients achieve confident\, healthy smiles while continuing his family’s tradition of exceptional orthodontic care. This lecture\, presented by faculty from Midwestern University – Illinois\, will explore how digital design systems enhance precision\, efficiency\, and predictability in restorative dentistry. Through demonstrations\, evidence-based literature\, and case studies\, attendees will gain practical insights into optimizing digital tools for fixed and removable prosthodontics. \nCourse Objectives:\nBy the end of this lecture\, participants will be able to: \n\nUnderstand the historical and current digital design systems and how they contribute to predictable outcomes in fixed and removable prosthodontics.\nReview clinical protocols for implementing digital workflows in fixed and removable prostheses.\nAppreciate and understand the exposure dental students receive in digital prosthodontics education.\nExplore applications of digital dentistry that emphasize accuracy\, efficiency\, and patient satisfaction.\nApply the presented digital dentistry options to everyday clinical practice.\n\nAbout the Speakers:\nDr. Behnam (Ben) Darvishan joined Midwestern University as an adjunct faculty member in the preclinical program at the College of Dental Medicine–Arizona after graduating from the program in 2015. During his time in private practice\, Dr. Darvishan utilized digital technologies to fabricate indirect ceramic restorations\, occlusal guards\, and surgical guides for implant restorations. \nAt the start of the pandemic\, he became intrigued by the capabilities of 3D printing and has since had the opportunity to work with multiple types of printers as a preclinical assistant professor at Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine–Illinois. He has designed and printed numerous projects that have advanced the research of preclinical students. \nCurrently\, Dr. Darvishan serves as a clinical care coordinator at the College of Dental Medicine and collaborates with Dr. Mohan to help students achieve the highest levels of success in their digital dentistry journey. In his free time\, he enjoys golfing and spending time with his one-year-old daughter. \nDr. Sidharth Mohan is Clinical Assistant Professor at Midwestern University. He completed his specialty training in prosthodontics at the University of Florida\, a field dedicated to restoring function and esthetics through the use of dental prosthetics. Dr. Mohan’s expertise includes dental implants\, crowns\, bridges\, dentures\, and full-mouth reconstructions. \nIn his leisure time\, he enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter\, playing basketball and soccer\, and exploring local dining hotspots. \nDr. August J Durso\, Jr. is an Assistant Professor at Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine in Downers Grove. He completed his DDS degree at Loyola University School of Dentistry in 1984. He began instructing at MWUCDMI in 2017 as a clinical adjunct and in 2020 became a pre-clinical adjunct. He accepted a full-time pre-clinical position in February of 2022. He worked in private practice for 38 years. Dr. Durso is active with the El Nino Rey dental mission group that supports remote villages and their dental health needs in Guerrero\, Mexico and has supported the Convent of the Holy Spirit Missionary Sisters with their dental health care needs since 1984. He enjoys running and golf and time with his family\, especially his 4 grandchildren.

Cocktails begin at 6:30 p.m. followed by dinner and the program at 7 p.m. \nRSVP Today \nSpeaker Bio:\nDr. Andrea Reale Reyes earned her DDS in 2012 from Santa Maria University in Caracas and an MS in Restorative Dentistry from the University of Michigan. She is a clinician and educator at the University of Illinois at Chicago\, with experience in research on dental ceramics and a focus on CAD/CAM technology. \nCourse Description:\nDental ceramics are widely used in restorative dentistry\, but their success depends on understanding material properties and applying the correct clinical protocols. This lecture will guide dentists in selecting the appropriate ceramic for each case\, recognizing material-specific limitations\, and mastering cementation techniques—from surface preparation to cement selection—for optimal long-term outcomes. \nLearning Objectives:\n1. Identify the different types of ceramics\, their characteristics\, and their different properties that will affect their clinical performances.\n2. Understand the indications and limitations of different ceramic materials in restorative dentistry\, including their composition\, durability\, and esthetic considerations.\n3.
