DESCRIPTION:Credit Hours: 3 Hours\nCourse Title: Don’t Gum It Up\, We’ll Straighten You Out! The Perio-Ortho connection!\nSpeakers: Jennifer Silc\, DDS\, MS\, Bryan Nakfoor\, DDS\, MS\nLocation:The Westin Chicago Lombard \nCourse Description:\nDetermining whether a patient’s condition is primarily periodontal\, orthodontic\, or a combination of both can be challenging. This course will provide guidance on when to refer patients for periodontal or orthodontic care and how collaborative treatment planning can significantly improve outcomes. We will explore strategies for accurate diagnosis\, the importance of early treatment discussions\, and ways to navigate complex cases. Participants will gain insight into common challenges that arise during periodontal and orthodontic treatment\, as well as practical approaches to achieving predictable\, high-quality results for both patients and restorative providers. Don’t worry if your treatment is gummed up—we will straighten it out. \nCourse Objectives:\nBy the end of this lecture\, participants will learn: \n\nWhen to refer to the specialist.\nHow Orthodontics can aid Periodontal treatment and how Periodontics can aid Orthodontic treatment.\nWhat came first…The periodontist or the orthodontist? Timing and how to stage treatment for optimal long-term results.\n\nAbout the Speakers:\nDr. Jennifer Silc earned her BS in Zoology from Michigan State University\, her DDS from Marquette University\, and her MS in Periodontics from the University of Michigan. A Diplomate of both the American Board of Periodontology and the International Congress of Oral Implantologists\, she has achieved the highest levels of accreditation in her specialty. \nFor more than 25 years\, Dr. Silc has led Silc Periodontics with expertise in periodontal care\, advanced bone regeneration\, implant dentistry\, and cosmetic oral surgery. She is known for her clear\, compassionate communication and values strong relationships with patients and colleagues—especially her favorite referring orthodontist and husband\, Dr. Bryan Nakfoor.  \nDr. Bryan Nakfoor discovered his passion for orthodontics while working in his father’s practice. He earned his engineering degree and dental degree with honors from the University of Michigan\, where he was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Society\, and completed his MS in Orthodontics at the same institution.  \nA board-certified orthodontist since 2008\, Dr. Nakfoor has over 20 years of experience helping patients achieve confident\, healthy smiles while continuing his family’s tradition of exceptional orthodontic care. Outside the office\, he enjoys golfing\, skiing\, traveling\, and family life with Dr. Silc and their two children.

SUMMARY:North Suburban November Branch Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Tuesday\, November 11\, at Exmoor Country Club\, located at 700 Vine Ave. in Highland Park. \nMitra Sadrameli\, DMD\, will present Common Findings in CBCT Scans. Cocktails are at 6 p.m.\, followed by dinner and announcements at 7 p.m.\, and the program at 8 p.m. \nSpeaker Bio:\nMitra Sadrameli\, DMD\, MS\, received her DMD in 1992 from the University of Florida. Following graduation\, she completed the AEGD program at Columbia University College of Dental Medicine in New York City. She maintained a private practice in general dentistry until she returned to graduate school in 2009 to earn her certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology and master’s in science at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio (UTHSCSA). She is board-certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology (ABOMR). \nAuthor of several articles and book chapters\, she has delivered presentations nationally and internationally on 3D imaging and its influence on personal patient care\, including diagnosis of pathology and surgical planning for dental implant site development. Her area of interest is the added value evaluation that imaging modalities such as CBCT provide to the clinical and surgical team. \nDr. Sadrameli currently serves on the review boards of multiple peer reviewed journals and has been involved with multiple dental committees: the American Academy of Oral Maxillofacial Radiology’s (AAOMR) Ad hoc Committee for Malpractice Insurance\, the AAOMR’s Strategic Planning Committee\, the AAOMR’s Radiology Practice Committee (as Co-Chair)\, and the ADA’s Commission for Continuing Education Provider Recognition (CCEPR). She currently serves on ADA’s Code Maintenance Committee. She maintains a full-time private practice in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology in Chicago\, IL. \nProgram Description:\nA Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) scan contains a significant amount of complex and anatomically related information. It not only reveals the presence or absence of disease\, but also the relationship between various anatomic structures to other structures\, or to a proposed surgical site. \nIn this presentation\, Dr. Sadrameli will provide strategies for systematically reviewing and evaluating CBCT scans for implant planning. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the indications and contraindications of CBCT imaging and providing the participants with pertinent\, usable information. \nLearning Objectives:\nThis presentation will provide participants with an opportunity to improve their 3D diagnostic skills. After this course\, they will: \n\nUnderstand the principles of CBCT to determine indications and contraindications of the technology.\nDevelop a systematic approach when evaluating CBCT scans.\nRecognize the multitude of CBCT applications\, with specific emphasis on implant site evaluation.\nAppreciate pre-implant site evaluation to ensure better\, predictable outcomes while minimizing mistakes or unintended consequences.\n\nCE Hours:\n2
