DESCRIPTION:Join us on Tuesday\, April 7\, at Hyatt Place Chicago South/University Medical Center\, located at 5225 S. Harper Ave. in Chicago. \nSherece Thompson\, DDS\, will present “Nutrition and Dentistry”. Meet and Greet will begin at 6 p.m.\, followed by dinner and the program at 7 p.m. This lecture offers 2 CE hours. \nPlease RSVP by Tuesday\, March 31.\n \nSpeaker Bio: Sherece B. Thompson\, DDS is an associate professor and Community outreach coordinator in the Dental Hygiene Health Science & Career Programs at Malcolm X College\, Chicago Illinois. Dr. Thompson practiced general dentistry in the North Beverly Hills area of Chicago for 20 years prior to pursuing teaching in the dental hygiene program at City Colleges. Currently she teaches Nutrition\, Community Health\, radiology lab and is the supervising dentist in the clinic. In addition to teaching in the dental hygiene department\, Dr. Thompson is an adjunct clinical instructor at University of Illinois College of Dentistry. Dr. Thompson’s commitment to the profession of dentistry and teaching expertise has earned her several distinguished awards. She has received the NISOD Excellence in Teaching Award and the Phi Delta Kappa International- Chicago State Chapter\, Educator of the Year. Dr. Thompson is a fellow of the American College of Dentist and the International College of Dentist. She is a member of the Chicago Dental Society\, served on the executive board and numerous committees. Dr. Thompson is married with twin teenagers. She enjoys traveling with her family and friends\, mentoring dental professionals as well as devoting time to public service with her sorority\, Delta Sigma Theta Inc. \nCourse description: BAM It’s V.A.M\, 3 Keys for Oral Health Promotion\, Prevention\nThe purpose of this course is to introduce what is the basis of good nutrition and its importance in Dentistry. There are no Good or BAD foods. Planning an adequate diet requires Variety\, Adequacy and Moderation (V.A.M) to promote good oral health and prevention of diseases. \nLearning Objectives:\n1. Explain why Nutrition is important in Dentistry.\n2. Discuss factors that contribute to food habits.\n3. Describe the general relationship between\, diet\, nutrition\, oral health and diseases.\n4. List the basic nutritional guidelines for nutritional counseling with patients. \nCE Hours: 2 \n
