Permanent link  Product Report: Isolite Dryfield Illuminator

02/28/2010

You know the drill: In the middle of an exam, a patient needs to rinse, or you need to re-adjust the lighting, or both of you need a break from trying to keep the tongue out of the way.

Meet the Isolite Dryfield Illuminator, a soft single-use mouthpiece that protects the tongue and cheek, evacuates fluid and oral debris, and illuminates the workspace. The company claims it can reduce procedure time by 20 to 30 percent.

In the first photo, Trucia Drummond, DDS (middle), shows Cissy Furusho, DDS, the product on the exhibit floor of the Midwinter Meeting. In the second photo, Furusho tries it out for herself.

Drummond said about 90 percent of patients are comfortable using it; some may feel claustrophobic.
