President’s Welcome
The Board of Directors, the members and staff, my wife, Coco, and I look forward to seeing you at the 145th Midwinter Meeting of the Chicago Dental Society. The 145th Midwinter Meeting will feature a new venue, the West Building on the McCormick Place Campus. Go West, CDS, the theme of the meeting, is a play on the famous phrase of Horace Greeley, and signifies the opportunity for CDS to grow and fulfill its mission more completely. The Midwinter Meeting will consolidate to three days, Sunday being eliminated. The exhibits will shift to a Thursday through Saturday schedule, concurrent with the academic portion of the meeting. Dr. George Zehak, General Chair, Dr. Cheryl Watson-Lowry, Program Chair, and Dr. Al Kleszynski, CDS Director of Scientific Programs, have assembled a scientific program that rivals any program of continuing education. We are pleased to showcase a virtual smorgasbord of 142 speakers, 175 courses, and 40 participation courses; 50 percent of the courses are free to attendees. All areas of interest are featured; all disciplines and specialties of the dental profession are covered. You will also find featured speakers of special interest to female attendees, as well as courses in Spanish for the second consecutive year. The Midwinter Meeting has been the venue for exhibitors to debut new products and services each and every year. This year will be no different. More than 600 exhibitors will display their products in the West Building, Level 3, Hall F. Support our loyal exhibitors! For the first time, Midwinter Meeting attendees can have a health screening featuring 10 tests. The Midwinter Meeting Wellness Center Health Screening, presented by BlueApple Health, will be located at the rear of the Exhibit Hall. You must pre-register for exams, administered by appointment only. Appointments are available each day of the meeting, so take advantage of this opportunity. Education with fun is what the Midwinter Meeting is all about. On Thursday, Feb. 25, we will have Opening Session with a reception from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., featuring refreshments, and followed by best-selling author and comedian Rita Rudner. On Friday, Feb. 26, starting at 8 p.m., we will have a great evening of musical entertainment at the Park West with two legendary acts, Blood, Sweat & Tears and Chuck Negron, formerly of Three Dog Night. Moda Latina is the theme for the annual Fashion Show and Luncheon, which will be Friday at noon at the Hilton & Towers in the Grand Ballroom. It will feature a Latin influence. Saturday, Feb. 27, the Don Cagen Orchestra will entertain us at the President's Dinner-Dance at the Hilton & Towers, Grand Ballroom. A special way to close the meeting! Coco and I, together with the Board of Directors, staff, committee volunteers, and regular and associate members, hope that you have a busy, productive, enjoyable and memorable 2010 Midwinter Meeting.
