David Kumamoto, DDS, a general dentist, was sworn in as president of the Chicago Dental Society at a ceremony held on Sunday, November 9, at the Chicago Hilton.
The society, which was established in 1864, has more than 4,100 members in Cook, Lake and DuPage Counties, making it the largest local society of the American Dental Association.
Dr. Kumamoto, who resides in Niles, received his dental degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago's College of Dentistry, where he was a clinical associate professor in the department of restorative dentistry.
He holds a part-time teaching position at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry, and has served as team dentist for the University of Illinois at Chicago's athletic department for more than 20 years. He also sits on the College of Dentistry's Alumni Board and is past chairman of the UIC Campus Alumni Advisory Board. He frequently lectures on the topic of sports dentistry.
He is a fellow of the International College of Dentists, the Academy of General Dentistry, the Academy for Sports Dentistry, and the American College of Dentists.
As president of CDS, Dr. Kumamoto will oversee its annual meeting, the Midwinter Meeting, held at McCormick Place on February 26-March 1, 2009. The meeting typically generates more than $45 million for the local economy, according to the Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau.
