Nearly 30,000 dental professionals occupied McCormick Place
during the 148th Midwinter Meeting, and there was no shortage of things
to do, see and learn.
This year’s conference welcomed over 600 exhibitors – 113 of
which were new to Midwinter – to the Exhibit Hall, allowing attendees the
opportunity to learn about the latest advancements and technologies in
“The Exhibit Hall is the heartbeat of the meeting. It’s the
source of all the energy, and the excitement emanates from there,” said Chicago
Dental Society President David Fulton Jr. after welcoming attendees to the Exhibit
This year’s courses were equally as impressive. With 221
courses on the docket and 118 speakers ready to share what the latest is in
dentistry; attendees packed their schedules to continue their education and
adapt to new innovations and techniques.
“I tell my staff that they need to be approachable and
knowledgeable, and that’s what you get here [at the Midwinter Meeting]," said Dr.
Robert Haraden. "That’s what makes you more valuable.” Read more about Dr.Haraden and his staff’s visit to the Midwinter Meeting.
Apart from staying current in the world of dentistry, attendees
referred to another motivator that keeps them coming back year after year: the
opportunity to network and connect with one another. CDS Communications
Committee Chair, Dr. Kimberley Bolden, has attended for the past 15 years and
told Open Wide that the Midwinter Meeting is her favorite conference because of the
opportunity to connect with peers from across the country.
The Midwinter Meeting even introduced multiple opportunities
for those new to the conference or the dentistry field to connect and network
with other professionals.
Pre-dental students participated in a Mentor Luncheon on Friday
of the Midwinter Meeting, where current CDS members joined students and young
professionals to socialize and develop their relationships. The conference also
welcomed back the popular New Dentist Reception. There, nearly
200 dentists gathered to meet some familiar faces and introduce themselves to
many new ones.
From the Midwinter Meeting acclaimed veterans to the
ambitious first-timers, this year’s conference managed to cater to everyone. CDS
is excited to invite attendees back to McCormick Place West and share what’s in
store for 2014.
